Aragon boys basketball team rallies past Willow Glen in overtime (mercurynews)
The Aragon boys basketball team's dream playoff run continued Thursday night
as the Dons rallied from 19 down just before halftime to defeat Willow Glen
65-60 in overtime.
The Dons were lightly regarded, to say the least, at the Central Coast Section
seeding meeting. Despite a 16-9 record the Dons were the No. 16 seed in
Division II.
They pulled a surprise Tuesday on the first night of the playoffs, winning at
No. 9 Los Gatos 66-61. But Thursday was even more thrilling.
It looked as though their season was about to come to an end. No. 8 Willow
Glen jumped all over them at the game's outset, going up 19-3 and building its
biggest lead at 33-14 shortly before halftime.
But Aragon, which starts four juniors and a sophomore, rallied to tie the
score at 53-53 at the end of regulation and then dominated the overtime
period.
As a reward Aragon gets to play No. 1 Mitty on Saturday at Foothill College.
"It's a privilege to play against Mitty,'' Aragon coach Sam Manu said. "It's
going to be an incredible challenge, a David and Goliath thing.''
