If you could retire 10 Indiana basketball jerseys, which 10 would you choose? (indystar)
I'm stealing this idea from a facebook item I saw from A.J. Guyton today,
where he posed the same question. But it's a good one. Indiana has never been
about recognizing individual achievements. No names on the back of jerseys, no
retired numbers in the rafters. But if you were to retire a player and his
number which ones would you choose? Here's my 10. Feel free to agree or
disagree and to offer your own suggestions in the case of disagreement. The
retired numbers would be: 12, 21, 22, 25, 34, 35, 40, 42, 44 and 54. 1. No. 40
Calbert Cheaney: He's the Big Ten's all-time leading scorer with 2,613 career
points. He was a three-time All-American. He was Bob Knight's first left-
handed player. His lowest scoring average in four years was 17.1 and his
career average was 19.8 points. The only problem with retiring that number,
however, is that the current No. 40 would have been forced to take a different
number. The current No. 40 is Cody Zeller. 2. No. 12 Steve Alford: A two-time
All-American who averaged 22 points per game on the 1987 National Championship
